On June 18, 1974, the Tampa General Hospital Transplant Institute was forever changed when nephrologists Dr. Dana Shires, Jr., Dr. Alejandro de Quesada, Dr. Lawrence Kahana, and surgeon, Dr. John Ackermann, performed the first successful living kidney transplant in the state of Florida. This team of visionary, innovative physicians were at the forefront of advanced organ disease treatment and set the trajectory for what is now one of the busiest transplant institutes in the country. Over the past 50 years, TGH has performed over 13,000 heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas transplants. As we work to improve, extend, and save the lives of people with advanced organ disease, will you consider making a gift to the Transplant Patient Assistance Fund in honor of the TGH Transplant Institute’s 50th anniversary?
The Transplant Patient Assistance Fund supports transplant patients with short term medically related expenses such as medications, gas money to travel to appointments, meals, living assistance, and more. Gifts to this fund make a significant impact on our transplant patients, allowing them to focus on getting better.
Please join us in celebrating this momentous anniversary by making a gift TODAY to support those who have been given a second chance at life. Your generosity today will help ensure that all transplant patients who seek financial assistance receive the help they need, allowing them to see many tomorrows.
Our goal is to raise $13,000 in honor of the number of transplants performed at TGH over the past 50 years. Help us celebrate by making your gift early today!
