Honor the Legacy of Dennis Alvarez
Tampa General Hospital’s Transplant Institute consistently demonstrates its commitment to providing access to care to those in our community with advanced organ disease. We have been a national leader in treatment and transplant surgery for 50 years. TGH was just ranked No. 1 in the nation for transplants by volume in 2024. In the process, TGH and the Transplant Institute set a new national record for transplant procedures in one year.
The TGH Transplant Institute understands the importance of alleviating financial barriers for our most vulnerable patients.
The transplant patient assistance fund provides support to patients by relieving some of their immediate financial concerns. This fund allows us to assist patients and their families with expenses such as transportation, lodging, utilities, pre-transplant dental work and more.
Dennis was a grateful patient of the TGH Transplant institute, and here is what his family has to say about the care that he received at TGH:
"On August 13, 2010, by the grace of God, after approximately six months on the transplant list following heart failure, Dennis received the gift of life, a heart transplant that gave him another almost 15 years. Our family is so thankful to have had him with us for these additional years. These years allowed Dennis to do so many things that he would have missed. He was able to spend more time with his family and friends, travel, attend sporting events, cook his favorite meals, enjoy football Saturdays and Sundays watching his beloved Gators and Bucs, practice law with his oldest son Derek, among many other things. Dennis cherished watching his sons and grandson compete in sports, the equestrian competitions of his granddaughter, dinners with his cooking club (FEO) friends, but most of all, his weekly family nights. Although he tried, Dennis never had the opportunity to meet the donor’s family, but we remain immensely grateful for the gift of life that he received. If you are not already an organ donor, please consider registering as one. This is something that Dennis advocated tirelessly."
Honor Dennis' legacy by making a gift to support those who have been given a second chance at life. Your generosity today will help ensure that all transplant patients who seek financial assistance receive the help they need, allowing them to see many tomorrows.
